The latter depends on the crosssectional thickness of the weld, the grade of steel, and its chemical composition [8]. The chemical composition, especially the carbon content, the amount, shape, and distribution of sulfide inclusions, and the fineness of grain determine the resistance to crack formation and propagation due to stresses arising during and after the welding process.
